Thank you for contacting Ferrara Candy Company regarding . Hearing from our consumers better enables us to continue to provide quality products and services.  Consumer feedback is very important to us, and we appreciate the opportunity to respond.

Ferrara Candy Company takes allergen issues seriously.  Packages must be labeled appropriately for potential allergens.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines suggest labeling for at least the “Big 8” allergies.

Product  labels for product manufactured and/or packaged on lines in which other products containing any of the “Big 8” will contain an allergen statement.  Allergens listed explicitly in the ingredients may not be listed dually in the allergen statement.

Ferrara Candy Company maintains several manufacturing and packaging facilities.  While some of these facilities are nut free or free from some or all of the "Big 8" allergens, others are not.  In addition, processes may change from time to time.  Please refer to the packaging, as the packaging contains the most current ingredient and allergen statements.  Packaging is updated anytime a change is made to the production location of any item.

Due to constant changes in manufacturing and packaging, Ferrara Candy Company is not able to offer a list of allergen affected items.

Thank you for your email requesting nutritional information on Edy's® Fruit Bars. In an increasingly health-conscious society, we are always pleased to respond to our consumers' questions regarding our products. Our facilities follow all federal and state regulations with regard to food and food safety. We do not use designated lines for products that contain known allergens, such as nuts and wheat. We do, however, thoroughly cleanse, sterilize and rinse every part of the machinery used in manufacturing, especially parts where any known food allergens come in contact. The addition of "Manufactured in a facility that also processes peanuts and nuts" is not considered mandatory by the FDA standards. If our vendors use this claim on the ingredients they supply us, we will include it on the packages containing that particular ingredient. Dear David - I saw your email in a paragraph about holiday parties at LSF in a recent newsletter.

Our family is a long time member of LSF and it's predecessor LAC.  We have never been able to eat any food sold at the club.  Our kids have severe allergies to nuts - tree nuts and peanuts. They must avoid potential cross contamination by any nut protein "dust".  So generally, I must ask about the ingredients and prep conditions for each item, AND the ingredients and prep conditions for any pre-prepared ingredients.  Hazards that require my inquiry include breads, breaded items, fryers, chocolate, seasoning blends, sauces. Can you tell me if it is possible for them to eat in any of the venues at the club?  If so, what can they eat?

Further, if we were to have parties (e.g. birthday) at the club, would your staff/facilities be able to provide food that is safe for them?

I spoke with the food and beverage department today; the consensus is as follows....The kitchen is very hesitant to make promises regarding food prep to individuals who have severe allergies. We have a small kitchen and we use a lot of nut products, as well as use our ovens to prepare items that contain nuts. I know that the pizzas are a nut free product and all that goes into the pizza is nut free, but if the children are sensitive to nut dust then that is where we get worried.

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that the amount of precaution needed is taken. After a little research, we found that many of our foods are processed in plants that also process peanuts and/or tree nuts.
