Country Life Vitamins - "Dolphin Pals"

Cindy Barkman :
Hi -
While our facilities are gluten free, they are not free of peanuts and all
tree nuts.  We do manufacture our products according to GMP standards and we
keep allergens separated.  Unfortunately, we cannot certify that there is no risk of cross-contamination for this particular product.

Girl Scout Cookies by Little Brownie Bakers...

I read somewhere that there are 2 bakeries that make GS cookies...  one is Little Brownie Bakers and here are the salient parts of their allergy policy (I omitted the self-serving boiler plate that is in every mfr policy):
... Peanuts, tree nuts, egg, cow's milk, wheat, soybean, fish, and shellfish account for 90% of food allergies in the US. These allergen ingredients are required to be labeled on food products when they are present as an ingredient. On our products the side panel provides an allergy box which is located below the ingredient statement. The allergen box clearly states the top 8 allergens contained inside each package....

We do use a may contain statement for peanuts and tree nuts when the product is produced on a line that shares equipment with another product that does contain peanuts or tree nuts. Scientific evidence has shown that consumers with peanut and tree nut allergies can have a severe reaction to amounts that are below the current detectable limits based on existing technology.

Beyond the top eight allergens, all ingredients are declared within the ingredient statement.

Farley & Sathers candy

Dear Christine:

Thank you for writing Farley's & Sathers Candy Company, Inc. regarding Now & Later® Candies.  Hearing from our consumers better enables us to continue to provide quality products and services.  Consumer feedback is very important to us, and we appreciate the opportunity to respond.

Farley's & Sathers Candy Company, Inc. takes allergen issues seriously. Packages must be labeled appropriately for potential allergens.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines suggest labeling for at least the “Big 8” allergies.

Taken from the Official Label Copy for these candies:
ALLERGEN INFORMATION: MADE ON EQUIPMENT THAT PROCESSES MILK AND EGG.

Current labeling for product manufactured and/or packaged on lines with other products containing any of the “Big 8” will contain an allergen statement.  Allergens listed explicitly in the ingredients may not be listed dually in the allergen statement.

Farley's & Sathers Candy Company maintains several manufacturing and packaging facilities.  While some of these facilities are nut free or free from all of the "Big 8" allergens, others are not.  In addition, processes may change from time to time.  Please consult the package label or contact us for additional allergen information on the product you purchased.   Please refer to the packaging, as the packaging contains the most current ingredient and allergen statements.  Packaging is updated anytime a change is made to the production location of any item.

Due to constant changes in manufacturing and packaging, Farley's & Sathers is not able to offer a list of allergen affected items.

Thank you for contacting Farley's & Sathers Candy Company with your request for information on our allergens.  Please contact us directly at 1-888-247-9855 (Consumer Affairs) with any additional questions or concerns about allergens and our products.

Please visit our website at www.farleysandsathers.com for additional information about our products and services.

Sincerely,

Dani Smith

Juice Plus Chewables and Capsules are SAFE; Complete drink mix may have traces of tree nuts.

Hello Michelle,

We are glad to assist you.  Unfortunately we have to have our products made by
contract manufacturers, and the rest of the products made by the plant can vary with
time.  Since there are now some other products made in the plant that may include
tree nuts, that is why the statement is on the label.  This statement is required by
law, but it does not mean the plant is sloppy, in fact given our own quality audits,
and those of NSF (the plant is certified by NSF as well), I can tell you the chance
for possible cross-contamination is extremely unlikely.

The capsules and the Chewables are made in other venues, and those plants are
completely free of any tree nuts.

Thank you,

Can you give me some insight that I may share with  my   customer about this?

Lou Malnati's Pizza

Hi Christine,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.  We have contacted our food safety consultant regarding your peanut allergies.  We do not use any peanut oil in any of our products or at any location and are safe to consume. Any outside dessert products (cheesecake and brownies) are in a sealed package and not viable to cross contaminate the pizzas.  The manager at the Gold Coast location was correct.  The frozen pizzas are made at the restaurants and at an FDA approved facility using no peanut oil.
I hope that this helps.

Barbara's Bakery (Puffins, Wheatabix) - NOT SAFE FROM TREE NUTS

Date:     September 1, 2010 12:12:35 PM CDT
Subject:     RE: Contact form inquiry from Barbara's Bakery website

Christine:
I believe that you and I just spoke, so to recap, all of our cereals are produced in a peanut free facility except our Peanut Butter Puffins.  Our Shredded Spoonfuls and Shredded Wheat cereals are not run on share equipment with products which contain tree nuts, but are in the same facility as.  All of our other cereals are run on shared equipment with products which contain almonds and hazelnuts and, although thorough cleaning is done between products, these should be avoided by highly sensitive individuals.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions or concerns.

Kathy Zorn
